February 2023

Dear Friends,
If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area this month I hope you’ll join me at the 74th annual Berkeley Festival of the Oaks, February 12 as I introduce a few Persian folk dances to a large gathering of eager folk dancers. Organized by the Berkeley Folk Dancers, America’s largest folk dance club, the day will be full of fun folk dance activities for the public. The Simorgh Dance Collective will also be there to perform traditional Persian dances for the large crowd.

Learn about the Iranian Day of Love, Sepandārmazgān, in a one hour online presentation on February 19. Sepandārmazgān is the Iranian predecessor of today’s Valentine’s Day. The program will include a ritual dance honoring Diana, the ancient Persian goddess of love, and a recipe to prepare an ancient Iranian “love potion.” Register and enjoy this program with your sweetheart.

My Persian Mystical Dance and Whirling class continues weekly for a second month with Sacred Dances of the Elements. Learn how the ancient Iranian art of whirling was influenced by the sacred ancient elements of nature: fire, water, earth, and air. More details for this class and other continuing classes appear below.

Wishing you safety, love, and health,
Farima

When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it.
