December 2022

Dear Friends,

This has been an amazing year of community collaborations and performances by the Simorgh Dance Collective that I for one am very grateful for. I’ve enjoyed meeting, participating, and learning with so many of you worldwide. Although this year is coming to a close there are still many special events and performances coming you will all like.

Three months in, the Iranian protests show no signs of stopping. I am amazed and touched by what I am witnessing among ordinary people who have become outspoken fighters driven to the streets to defend human rights. Here’s wishing the New Year brings Iran into a just world.

Our third annual Yalda (Persian Winter Solstice) online celebration will feature live music, lecture, poetry and stories shared, a special celebration of light with prayers for the people of Iran, and more. Presented online December 20 starting at 7:30pm Pacific, we hope you will bring us into your home and participate.

December I will be visiting Brooklyn, NY for a gathering and workshop in whirling dance. December 17 in join us to remember the mystical poet Rumi with sacred dance, music, and poetry in Shab-i Arus. The following day, December 18, I will be presenting my signature Dance of the SoulTM workshop in sacred dance and whirling there. Look for details in our event calendar below.

My long-awaited Beginning Persian Mystical Dance and Whirling as well as my Persian and Silk Road dance classes resume in January, online and in person. My Sunday Sacred Circle gathering for meditation, live music, Sufi lecture and discussion, and healing continues Sundays through December. See below for details.

Finally, visit the Simorgh Holiday Bazaar this winter for specialty Silk Road costume gifts, jewelry, and more and help support the work of the Simorgh Dance Collective as well.

With love wishing you safety, joy, and health throughout the new year! Happy Yalda!
