Dear Friends,
This has been an amazing year of community collaborations and performances by the Simorgh Dance Collective that I for one am very grateful for. I’ve enjoyed meeting, participating, and learning with so many of you worldwide. Although this year is coming to a close there are still many special events and performances you will all like before the year end.
My highly-anticipated book Companions of the Sun launched last October and continues to gather a following. Look for author lectures and performances in San Jose, Los Angeles, and Monterey this month. Companions of the Sun explores the origins and practice of Iranian dance in hand with spirituality. It reveals Iranian rituals and beliefs in relation to dance, as well as how Iranian culture has impacted global music and dance traditions.
Whirling is a gateway for self-growth and spiritual enlightenment through movement, music, and meditation. Many dance students have praised my sacred dance workshops and classes for their authenticity and ease, and for my unusually scholarly depth of knowledge. Make plans to participate in my Dance of the Soul, Sema gathering, and Wheel of Mitra workshop this month in Los Angeles and Monterey.
Finally, join me to celebrate Yalda, the traditional Persian celebration of the longest night of the year (i.e. winter solstice), for a dance performance in Los Angeles Dec. 19.
Wishing to see you soon in dance where ever you are,
Farima
Last night, at dawn, I was rescued from sorrow;
They gave me the wine of eternal life to drink.
