March brings us the first day of spring with the vernal equinox, and in turn spring is unversally recognized as a powerful symbol of rebirth, renewal, and new begnnings. Nature is renewed as snow melts, trees become green once more, and flowers bloom. Spring signifies a fresh start, embracing growth, hope, and potential inspiring personal growth and spiritual awakening. The first day of Spring also marks Norouz, the Persian New Year, and a time of renewal rituals, dancing, celebration, and remembrance.
In the spirit of spring I invite you to make your own beginning with new experiences, new challenges, and new friends in the realm of dance, culture, and spirituality. Coming up this month and April I present exciting author lectures and dances as well as participate in an online sacred dance series of classes starting March 22. Look below for details.
With the armed attack that began this last weekend in Iran and the tramatic events that followed my heart goes out to the families and individuals seeking comfort, safety, and protection. In times like these I propose it is time to come together in prayer, hope, and remembrance. This Wednesday March 4 I facilitate an hour of online prayer and sema (i.e. whirling ritual) gathering. All are welcome to join and share poetry, prayers, and stories of hope.
Hoping to see you soon in dance,
Farima
For those that stepped forward and never came back.
For the young souls taken from us too soon.
For families carrying unspeakable grief:
We dance because such a heavy sorrow cannot stay still.
We dance to carry them in our bodies.
We dance to carry them in our rhythm.
We dance until we remember their names.
We dance to turn sorrow into power.
