April 2026

Dear Friend,
Rumi, the 13th-century Persian mystic poet, often embraces that pain allows for spiritual growth, where suffering breaks the ego to let light in, and the remedy to suffering is within oneself rather than in external validation. In his poem “This being human is a guest house,” he encourages embracing all emotions, even difficult ones, as visitors who come purify the heart. This perspective helps me cope and heal during difficult times. I am deeply grateful for all who joined and will join me in prayers for the people of Iran and the Middle East. I find hope that millions of Americans across the country joined forces in a historic moment to speak with one voice against war during the #NoKings protests this last weekend.

My heart is overflowing with thanks for the many people and organizations who invited and joined me in celebrating Norouz in traditional dance last month. These include the Roya Foundation, Mosaic America, Salt Lake Community College, and the Los Altos and Cupertino Libraries. Special appreciation also to the Lila group for inviting me to take part and share Persian sacred dance among five other master dancers, spiritual teachers, and lineage holders across traditions during the Dances of the Mystics online course last Sunday.

In Menlo Park, CA have some fun April 11 and join me with the Peninsula Folk Dance Council to celebrate the cultures of spring with an international themed folk dance and tea party. I will be on hand to lead a few Persian folk dances. Also this month, you can spot me April 18 with other authors at the Benicia Local Author Book Festival to promote their works, perform book signings, and answer questions.

I plan to resume my dance classes in a hybrid format soon. Look for details on my Classes web page soon or by newsletter announcement next month.

Hoping to see you soon in dance,
Farima

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!

~Rumi
