SUMMARY:Awakening: Dance Performances and Sema Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Denman Island Community Hall for an inspiring evening of dance performances and Sema (AKA Sufi whirling) with international dance artist and scholar Farima Berenji. The evening starts with Persian traditional and sacred dance performances by Farima\, the Simorgh Dance Collective\, as well as dancers attending the Awakening Seven Persian Goddesses retreat.  Following the dance performances\, with Farima’s guidance we will learn personal and spiritual Sema (Sufi Whirling) as well as other turning practices\, while listening to sacred poetry and music. \nDoors open 7:30 Performances 8-9:00PM\nSema Gathering 9:00-10:00PM\nSliding Scale Admission\, payable at the door: $10-$20 \nAll are welcome! \nOff islanders\, this event is timed so that you can catch the last ferry leaving Denman Island for Buckley Bay at 10:40pm and the Community Hall is walking distance to the ferry. \nDon’t hesitate to contact Cathy Stoyko if you have any questions by message or phone 250 218-0704. \n*Those that wish to participate in the Sema Gathering following the performances are encouraged to wear white or light coloured clothing.  Socks or soft soled shoes are recommended for whirling.
