February 2021

Hold fast to dreams,
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird,
That cannot fly.

–Langston Hughes (1902-1967), American Poet.

Dear Friend,
Hope you are staying safe, healthy, and warm this winter! Thank you all for your unconditional love and support! Thank you to the amazing and growing number of artists, students, followers, and all those who join online worldwide to share their love, teachings, comments and inspirations with me as we meet for my sacred circle gatherings now twice weekly each month. The world seems so much smaller but more lovely and remarkable with you. If you join me for my dance classes I love you no less seeing you create dance with me.

This February we are working on plans to bring another online celebration for Norouz, the Persian New Year, in March. There will be dance and music performances to enjoy without leaving your home and family. Stay tuned!

A number of students have asked that I help teach my popular beginning Sufi whirling workshops in a class setting. For newcomers and admirers of the art of Sufi whirling my Beginning Persian Mystical Dance and Sufi Whirling class starts Saturdays February 6. Learn the essentials of whirling meditation including preparation, balance and posture, controlling dizziness, self-focus, breath work, and more. Look below for more details.

Continuing intermediate and advanced students of Persian dance and whirling are already excited for my Tuesday evening classes: Wings of Light, whirling and mystical dance movements inspired by the sacred birds, and Poetry in Motion, poetic inspiration and improvisation in Persian dance.

My Sacred Circle breathing, meditation, and lecture gatherings continue this month. My Thursday morning gathering features more fundamental Sufism concepts and lessons than the Sunday morning gathering. Many students are interested in attending both.

Finally, this month Sufi music master Seyed Salman Hosseini joins me weekly for an hour of online lectures and analysis of the seven Sufi sacred maqams and its association with Iranian sacred movements and healing. Seyed Salman Hosseini is also available for private lessons in the traditional setar, tar, and tanbur instruments.

Wishing you safety, love, and health,
Farima

I said to the night,
“If you are in love with the moon,
it is because you never stay for long.”
The night turned to me and said,
“It is not my fault. I never see the Sun,
how can I know that love is endless?”
