This has been an amazing year of performances by the Simorgh Dance Collective and I, one I am very grateful for. I’ve enjoyed meeting, participating, and learning with so many of you worldwide. Although this year is coming to a close there are still many special events and performances coming you will all like.
At the close of this month I will be visiting Manchester, England for a gathering and workshop in whirling dance. I am also proud to be presenting a lecture, a workshop in Persian Classical dance, and performance at the 2019 Persian Art & Letters Conference in London, from December 26 to 29. The Journey of the Simorgh, a dance concert based on the Persian epic Conference of the Birds by Farid ud-Din Attar, debuts one night in Menlo Park January 11, 2020. This production retells the legend of the birds with live music, lavish costumes, and features Persian sacred, classical, and folkloric dances performed by the Simorgh Dance Collective. Tickets are selling fast and seating is limited.
In 2020 I am excited to announce Tarsa, a dance drama featuring Sadegh Hatefi, Ali Aminipour, Farima Berenji, and the Simorgh Dance Collective. This is an epic tale befitting Romeo and Juliet, a tale of love between a Sufi Shaikh, a Christian maiden, and a simple love that grows between them despite the divisions of their beliefs. It debuts February 22 in San Jose. Look for more details below.
