March 2019

I just got back from a beautiful, very busy and incredible heart opening experience in Calgary, Alberta! Each day from morning until night we had dancing, whirling, music, prayer, zikr, amazing food, greetings with incredible people and artists… even Turkish, Greek, and Roma folk dancing! A special thank you to HYMM and Bijan Maysami for an amazing evening concert, for joining our workshop, and blessing us with your music. Great thanks to our hosts and to the Calgary Ismaili Community and Center for all your help and blessings. And thank you to my new sisters and brothers for being such a wonderful souls! Although the outdoor temperatures were sub-zero our hearts were warm and fulfilled.

March is the month of new beginnings as we welcome Spring and Norouz, the Persian New Year. Consider making your own new beginnings this year, new experiences, new challenges, and new friends in the realm of dance, culture, and spirituality. Consider studying the ancient Persian warrioresses at Mt. Shasta, Sufi warriors in Greece and Turkey, and the mystics in Iran. Registration deadlines for these retreats and tours are approaching soon. Look below for their offerings.

Watch for upcoming performances of the Simorgh Dance Collective and I in San Francisco’s Femina and the annual Houston Norouz Festival. In Femina, we perform a dance re-enactment exemplifying the legendary ancient women warriors and goddesses of ancient Persia. Then look for us performing Persian classical dances sharing the stage with popular Persian artists March 24 in Houston.
